First Holy Communion/First Reconciliation

Picture
First Holy Communion is a sacrament of welcome into the community of Jesus Christ and celebrates the beautiful gift of belonging to Jesus Christ with the community of the Catholic Church for the whole world. It invites and calls us to joyfully live, learn, love, grow, and be nourished in faith together.

Here at St. Matthew's, we work very hard to ensure that our children experience the sacrament of Reconciliation as a celebration of being loved unconditionally ... in a world where they are told constantly that they are broken, not good enough, unworthy ... this is a time for them to know that there is nothing, nothing at all, that can separate them from the love of God.

Households with children who are baptized and at least 7 years old are welcome to enroll in First Communion and/or First Reconciliation sacramental preparation at St. Matthew's. Children no longer need to receive the sacrament of First Reconciliation before receiving the sacrament of First Communion. It's up to each family to determine when and in what order your child prepares for/receives these sacraments.

In addition to the sacramental preparation requirements noted below, households with children preparing for these sacraments are expected to participate in the Generations of Faith monthly faith formation sessions. Be sure to complete
both the Generations of Faith registration form and the 1st Communion/1st Reconciliation registration forms below by October 1, 2017 and join us at a Parent information meeting on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 7 PM in the Social Hall at St. Matthew’s to learn more about these sacramental programs. In the meantime, if you have questions, please drop by the Church Office, call us at 518-765-2805 Ext. 19 or email Joy Galarneau at stmatthewsfaithdevelopment@verizon.net.
